Ghosts tours, explorations, wanderings... this is some of the stuff I got myself into this week...

I hung out and helped out at the Ghosts915 Paranormal Research Center

I stopped to admire some beautiful architectural details in Downtown EPTX

Then I fantasized about the magical powers of this mesmerizing golden door

I had some awesome tacos for dinner at the legendary Good Luck Cafe (Est. early 1960's)

 

I encountered a lot of sandstorms and desert winds

 

I saw a spooky sunset in Socorro TX

I had some amazing homestyle food with friends at Sofia's Restaurant (a little Socorro gem on Glorietta Rd)

I went to the Golden Eagle Gallery in historic San Elizario TX (featuring over 40 local & regional artists)

 I hunted the ghosts of history in the Old County Jail during the San Elizario Ghost Tour

 

I was tempted by the opening in this vacant building in Downtown EPTX

I walked through the darkest part of the cemetery during the Concordia Cemetery Ghost Tour

I saw Annabelle's twin at the Bronco Swap Meet (a favorite place to explore on a Sunday-afternoon )

Lost Destinations is not dead

10 years ago, a lost girl w a camera made a website about lost things. That website was Lost Destinations. Some of you remember the beginning, because you were there from the beginning. 10 years later, LD has been dormant for the past few years.... but LD is not dead... oh no... LD has only been slumbering, churning in it's silent grave and restlessly waiting for its time to crawl out into the world again...

That time is soon coming.

2007 was a helluva year. As most of you know, my little sister Haley was murdered that year, and the aftermath of that loss affected everyone who was close to Haley, including of course me. It was devastating. LD suffered a loss as well, as my sister was getting interested in becoming part of the website... but her death came before her LD debut. She was photographing things, and trying to build up a few stories & photo sets for LD. I can so remember she & I going out to supposedly haunted El Paso High in the middle of the night, walking around the entire school a few times while trying to get photos... giggling because we both got startled a few times by noises... I still have those photos, and have never had the heart to post them on LD. In fact I hadn't had the heart to do much of anything since 2007, other than mourn my sister and try to just get through the aftermath and the trial dates. Unfortunately, LD was one of those things that was set aside until things could settle.

Things now are not totally 'settled', as usual in mi vida loca things never really are, but it's at a point where I can start to extend myself to LD (and my other artistic pursuits) once again. I've got a lot of fantastic things to add to the site, plus more coming up... right now the LD redesign is running into an IE6 problem, which my tech guy is working on. As soon as that's conquered, LD will be up & running, and running down some very dark & spooky corners.

Til then, you facebook users can totally stay updated on the LD facebook fan page... I will of course be posting updates there, as well as trying to keep you guys entertained/informed/intrigued with a steady dose of the weird, creepy, abandoned & mysterious. Invite your LD-loving fans to the page! Also, feel free to post your own creepy photos in the fan photo albums, or post your spooky stories in the discussion forum... it's great when you guys get involved.

new mexico run

Last Sunday, we went on a long New Mexico bike run with my man Red Light and fellow Mad Hatters Obe, RayRay, and RayRay's wife Judy. From El Paso, to Carlsbad, to Artesia, to Cloudcroft, to Alamogordo, and back.... 13 hours, about ten (!!) of which were spent on the bike... I never knew how bad it can hurt to simply have your butt fall asleep, but oh man does it ever. It was a hard ride, but also a beautiful one.... from the desert to the mountains, plains and forests, from early morning sunshine to deepening dusk... we saw so many awesome things along the way. We also stopped off at the legendary haunted Lodge in Cloudcroft, which was great because I have adored that lovely, spooky place since I was a kid, and nobody else had ever been there before, so I totally got to show it off to my peeps... *grin*

I am packing my bag for a day & night in the woods... not going camping or anything (lord no!)... I'm heading to the fresh, green, pineylicious mountains of New Mexico with my crazy auntie for the weekend. We are going to stay in a charming-ass little log-built motel that looks like it is out of the 50's (well I guess maybe it is), we're going to wander around and absorb all the foresty goodness and look out for deersies and squirrels and bears oh my, we're going to hit up a casino (my aunt is the gambler, not me), we're gonna have a nice meal together, and we're gonna watch the parade of bikers rev up and down the main street (there is a motorcycle run in Ruidoso this weekend), and we're just gonna converse and chill and relax and try to reboot our mental hard drives.

So I am off to the woods, the streams, the cold clean air. Hoping it will clear my head, calm my heart, and refresh my spirit. My spirit needs a good refreshing kick in the ass about now.
